Purpose
To support parents/carers and young people to work together to plan safer travel options for young road users by building a better understanding of the influences on behaviour that can lead to risk taking
Format
A joint session brings young people and their parents/carers or other significant adults together, encouraging open discussion to plan strategies for safe travel for young people whether as a passenger, pedestrian, cyclist or a young driver
Small group discussions:
- For young people, are delivered by trained university students. This helps to create an environment where the young people are more willing to express ideas and opinions
- For parents/carers or other significant adults, are delivered by experienced facilitators and explore the developmental stages of young people
Joint sessions encourage open discussion to plan strategies for safe travel for young people whether as a passenger, pedestrian, cyclist or a young driver and the development of an individualised safe travel agreement where young people and their parents/carers, or other significant adults, agree on strategies to ensure safer travel
