Step into Safety: Levels Foundation A-F

Specialist Education Primary School In-Class Health and PE English Towards Foundation
Overview

This unit supports students working at Levels Foundation A–Foundation to develop the skills, knowledge and confidence needed to move safely on footpaths and near roads. It recognises that many learners at these levels are still developing awareness, communication and independence, and require explicit teaching, repetition and adult support to navigate road environments safely.

Through highly scaffolded, practical learning experiences, students build core road-safety skills, learn to recognise safe and unsafe environments, and practise protective behaviours such as stopping, looking, listening and holding an adult’s hand when crossing. They explore key features of their local road environment, respond to signs and signals, and learn how to identify hazards and make safer choices, using communication methods appropriate to their needs.

The unit includes clear learning intentions and success criteria, with assessment rubrics and achievement standards mapped directly to the Victorian Curriculum Levels Foundation A–D and Foundation. Differentiated activities support a wide range of learning needs, enabling teachers to assess progress in developmentally appropriate ways and tailor learning for all students.

Curriculum Alignment

This unit is fully aligned with Victorian Curriculum 2.0 and VTLM 2.0, with a primary focus on Health and Physical Education and English. All relevant content descriptors are embedded within the individual lesson plans.
