Accreditation

The Bike Ed Instructor Training accreditation is valid for four years.

Bike Ed accreditation is based on competency. This means instructors must keep their skills and knowledge up to date so they can deliver Bike Ed programs safely and effectively.

Instructors should:

  • Keep a copy of their accreditation certificate.
  • Maintain the skills and knowledge needed to teach Bike Ed.

Bike Ed Instructor accreditation is recognised under the Department of Education's Excursions: Adventure Activities policy.

For Bike Ed programs that take place outside school grounds, the Department of Education recognises:

  • Bike Ed Instructor Training (Department of Transport and Planning)
  • AusCycling Coaching Accreditation

The Bike Ed Instructor Training program was updated in 2022-23. Since 2024, all new accreditations have been issued with a four-year validity period.

Re-accreditation

To remain accredited, instructors must show they have maintained the required skills and knowledge.

A simplified re-accreditation process (being trialled in Term 4) is available for instructors who hold a current Bike Ed Instructor Training accreditation.
