Overview

Safer by Design: Investigating Forces, Motion and Road Safety is a Years 9-10 Physics unit fully aligned with Victorian Curriculum 2.0 and VTLM 2.0. Students:

  • Investigate forces, motion, energy and road safety
  • Analyse real-world data and calculate quantities such as kinetic energy and stopping distance
  • Examine the science behind vehicle safety technologies
  • Design, build and test a protective structure in an engineering challenge
  • Communicate evidence-based road safety messages to a broader audience

Integrating Science, Mathematics and Design and Technologies, the unit develops critical thinking, data analysis, problem-solving and design skills through an authentic real-world context. It includes clear learning intentions, success criteria, assessment rubrics and differentiated learning experiences to support diverse learners.
